5 Prayers for Your Child

Prayer prompts to pray for your children

Monday

A Prayer for Glad-hearted obedience

Father, I pray for ________ to have a glad-hearted obedience to You. I pray that following You would bring ________ immense joy and purpose and meaning throughout his/her life. I pray that ________ would have an obedience to Your commands and Your ways and that would produce fruit in his/her life that is evident to him/her and to those around him/her.

May love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control flow out of ________’s obedience to You. Lord God, may I too live a life that exemplifies obedience to You so that ________ will see the fruit of obedience and the joy that a life given to You produces. Amen.

Tuesday

A Prayer for Protection over mind and body

Lord, there is so much going on in our world today that sometimes I fear for my child’s mind and for their body. The world tells them to follow their own desires and yet I know the world does not always speak Your truth. I pray for ________’s emotional, physical and spiritual protection. May _______ hear a voice louder than his/her own and may that voice be Your Spirit that calls him/her to something more, to something greater than the world offers. Give ________ discernment to know Your truth when he/she hears it. Help _______ to set his mind on things above and not on earthly things. May his/her life be hidden with Christ in God. Father, Your divine plan for ________ is to prosper him/her and not to harm him/her and that plan gives ________ a hope and a future. Help me to trust You with ________’s future and not to fear because Your perfect love casts out fear. God, protect ________ from physical harm or to succumbing to fleshly desires and help him/her to learn that his/her body is a temple of the Holy Spirit and that You laid down Your life for ________.

May ________ honor you with his/her body and may he/she rest in Your shadow, the shadow of the Almighty. Thank you, God, that You are ________’s refuge and strength and the fortress in whom he/she can trust. Amen.

Wednesday

Love God; love others

God, throughout the Bible we read the cry of Your heart is the desire for us to be Your people and for You to be our God. You taught us the greatest meaning of love by laying down Your life for us. And You told us we too ought to lay down our lives for one another. Teach ________ to first love You so that You can teach him how to truly love others. Show him/her that life-changing love is full of compassion and mercy which You demonstrated for us on the cross. Lord, just as all of us want to be treated rightly, help _______ to treat others like he/she wants to be treated. And help me Lord to treat my child with the same compassion and mercy that You have shown me. Amen.

Thursday

A Prayer for My Child to Resist Anger

Father, help ________ whenever anger takes hold of him/her not to sin in his/her anger. You tell us in Your word when we are angry not to sin but in bed to look down inside and be silent. Help me as _______’s parent to have the wisdom to guide ________ whenever he/she is working through difficulties in situations and in relationships and to do it in such a way that he/she honors You.  May his/her speech be one that draws others to You and does not retaliate or isolate others. Keep bitterness and vengeance out of his/her heart. Father, when my child is angry this does not bring about the righteous life that you desire for him/her. Help ________ not to lash out with harsh words or actions that leave him/her feeling guilty or full of shame but rather help ________ to turn to You and to respond in a way that helps promote Your peace. I know there are times that ________’s anger may stem from defending You or others that have been unjustly wronged. Give ________ even in those times the ability to be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger so that he lives a righteous life before You and others. Amen.

Friday

A Prayer for a Sound Mind

Lord Jesus, you have not given us a spirit of fear, but one of love, power, and of a sound mind. I pray that ________ would not operate out of fear in his/her life but he/she would be able to trust in the power of Your love and the power of Your presence and have the correct way of thinking about himself/herself because he/she has the mind of Christ. We know that Your word is sound and that Satan wants to instill fear that keeps my child from trusting You and keeps me from trusting You with my child.  May ________ know how to be guided in such a way that he/she is able to live out his/her life in Your love and power. Father, help me to provide ________ places to worship You, opportunities to pray to You, and to keep ________ in Your word every day. May unsound thoughts or lies of the enemy cause my child and me to recount Your word and the truth of what it says about us. May ________’s mind be set on things above because his/her life is hidden with Christ in God. Amen.
